Merit Badge Process
1. It is the responsibility of the scout to ask the scoutmaster if he wants to start a merit badge. 2. When the Scoutmaster okays, he will sign a Merit Badge Card (blue card). 3. The scout is responsible to contact a merit badge counselor -- he can call Ted Ince or Dave Melin for a list of counselors for the badge he wants to take. 4. There must be another person with the scout at each meeting with the merit badge counselor. This person can be another scout, parents, a brother or sister, or other relative or friend. 5. Once the scout has completed the merit badge, the counselor will sign off and keep one of the three parts of the merit badge card, and one part is given to advancement chair (Dave Melin), and the scout is responsible to get this to the advancement chair. Advancement chair will record and then order the merit badge for presentation at the next court of honor. The third part is kept by the scout. (Important for scouts to keep these records in the case of any discrepancies.)
